In Florence we viewed the David, toured the Uffizi Gallery, took a walk to the Santa Croce church, and viewed the city from atop the Piazzele Michelangelo.
Florence: Ghiberti's Bapistri door next to the Duomo in Florence. These are copies of the originals, which are housed in a nearby museum.
Florence: Duomo (Santa Maria de Fiore) and Campanile. This is the fourth-largest cathedral in the world. On this trip we saw, then, the 1st, 3rd and 4th largest (I believe St Peters in London is 2nd)...or at least that's what they'd have you believe.
Florence: Duomo (Santa Maria de Fiore). Built between 1296 and 1462...so it was finished thirty years before Columbus' first voyage!
Florence: Detail on the Duomo. As always, there was some scaffolding on the Duomo, and you could really tell what had been restored and cleaned and what hadn't been touched yet--like night and day.
